The booklet of no less than a part of those letters as a last tribute to Prof. Hering has been in my brain for a few years. This unique thought has now been a little bit prolonged by way of the inclusion of a host ofletters to Dr. H. Buhr, Dr. J. Klimesch, Dr. F. Groschke and G. C. D. Griffiths, all of whom shared Prof. Hering's curiosity in leaf-miners. even if Dr. Buhr is essentially a botanist, with Hering's encour agement he has taken an energetic curiosity in leaf-miners all through his occupation and his striking amassing turns into obvious from Hering's letters to him. for a few years Prof. Hering has written among and 3 thousand letters every year.
